On behalf of the faculty and staff, welcome to the 2016 – 2017 school year. The continued success of our children is the result of our Irving School community working as a team to provide a quality education for our students. This school year will begin with a change in our learning standards. The Illinois State Board of Education is pleased to announce the Kindergarten - 12 new Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics. These standards represent a set of expectations for student knowledge and skills that high school graduates need to master to succeed in college and will also enable them to thrive in a global economy.
Irving will continue to offer students in grades 6th through 8th a departmentalized middle school which will better prepare them for High School. All students will be offered an expanded enrichment program which will include Counseling Services, Spanish, and Physical Education, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
In order to maintain safety and security in our school, Irving will reinforce the Chicago Public Schools’ Student Code of Conduct. Your child will receive this booklet at our open house. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the contents of this document and review the policies with your child.
As a member of the Irving School Community you are welcome to participate in school and classroom activities. We hope that you will share your time, talent and suggestions for improving our school community relationship. We look forward to seeing you at school activities, meetings, report pick-ups, field trips and as classroom volunteers. If you have any concerns or comments, feel free to make an appointment to see me. Have a wonderful school year!
